Energy, Mines and Resources and
Environment manage the environmental aspects of mining in the territory. Federally,
Environment Canada and
Fisheries and Oceans Canada are involved in the review of project proposals, assessments, and the regulation of mining activities in Yukon.
Assessments
Environmental assessments in Yukon are carried out by the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board, as set out in the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act.

Several boards and committees, most created under the Yukon First Nation Umbrella Final Agreement [PDF 463KB], manage Yukon's natural resources. Inspections & Compliance
Mineral exploration and development programs are subject to regular, periodic inspections by Natural Resources Officers (NROs) with the Client Services and Inspections Branch of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.

Reclamation & Closure
Yukon has developed a mine reclamation and closure policy. The policy and supporting guidelines are based on modern industry standards and are consistent with national mine site reclamation policies.
