Bedrock Geological Mapping
The Yukon has a diversity of geology but less than 10% is mapped at a scale suitable for detailed mineral exploration. The YGS is undertaking aggressive 1:50 000 scale bedrock mapping in the Yukon and contributes to the GSC's NATMAP Projects.

Petroleum-related Studies
The Yukon has eight sedimentary basins which are are favourable for petroleum resources. YGS is undertaking stratigraphic studies in several of these prospective areas.

Surficial & Placer Studies
The surface of the Yukon is overlain by a diverse array of surficial sediments, including pre-glacial, glacial, and interglacial deposits, much of them containing placer gold. The Yukon placer industry still produces ~80,000 ounces of gold annually.

 |
Geophysical & Geochemical Surveys
The YGS contributes to regional stream geochemical surveys and airborne geophysical surveys that are undertaken in the Yukon by the Geological Survey of Canada.

Mineral Resource Assessments
Land use, land claim and park planning exercises require thorough assessments of mineral potential. We use state-of-the-art GIS compilations of existing data, acquire new data, and use expert input to make assessments.

Other Studies
The YGS sponsors academic theses, is a contributor to the Snorcle-Lithoprobe Project, the Ancient Continental NATMAP, the Central Foreland NATMAP, and participates in public education and outreach.
