Lead Zinc

Yukon is host to various deposit types rich in lead-zinc:

Three episodes of significant metalliferous exhalative activity occurred in the Selwyn Basin, a long-lived basin that records sedimentation and periodic mineralization from the Proterozoic to the Devonian. The three main sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX) mineralizing events occurred in the Cambrian (Anvil/Faro), Silurian (Howards Pass), and Devonian (Macmillan Pass – Tom & Jason deposits).

Volcanic-associated Massive Sulphide (VMS) lead-zinc +/-silver, copper, gold deposits occur primarily within mid-Paleozoic volcanic rocks of Yukon-Tanana terrane in the Finlayson Lake district. Four discrete packages of felsic and mafic volcanic rocks have potential to host VMS deposits in the district. Deposits include the Kudz Ze Kayah, Wolverine, Ice, Fyre Lake and GP4F.

Other lead-zinc occurrences include carbonate-hosted (e.g., Goz deposit), manto (Sa Dena Hes deposit) and skarn occurrences. Vein deposits include the zinc-lead vein/breccia Andrew deposit and historic silver-zinc-lead vein deposits of the Keno Hill District.
