The Quartz Mining Act (PDF 579KB) (QMA) is the primary legislation governing hard rock mining activities on lands in Yukon. The purpose of the QMA is to encourage prospecting, exploration, staking and development of mineral resources by providing an orderly system of allocation of exclusive rights to minerals. Specific permission must be obtained where the surface is occupied by others.
